We were supposed to dock at 0700 this morning which
meant the ship’s giant voice would be going off at 0600 telling everybody to
get up and get off the boat. Well, we were early so we got the big voice at
0500. We were all put on hold for some medical emergency and eventually
de-boarded at 0645. My travel plan appeared to be a good one because I was the
only one going east (to Rose Blanche lighthouse) while everyone else went north
(the only other option). By the time I rode out and back, about 95 KM not only
was all the traffic from the ship gone but those that didn’t gas up before
getting on the ship were stuck because lightening took out power from Port aux
Basques clear up through the Codroy valley which is as far as Doyles. The guesstimate
was 2 hours before power was restored so a lot of people spent the beginning of
their day parked at a gas station. I had filled up so was good to go but I did
have to change my plans because now I wouldn’t be able to ride through the
Codroy Provincial Park or up to Cape Anguille, I would run out of gas. So I
rode up to Rocky Harbor and up to the Arches Provincial Park (which I had taken
out of the trip because of time constraints). It was a beautiful day and the
Arches were pretty cool. All three
arches have a height of 15 feet. The south arch has a span of 55 feet (the
south arch also has a 15-foot opening in the side), the middle arch has a span
of 29 feet, and the north arch has a span of 38 feet. I’m actually
staying in a B&B and Vera is trying to convince me to try moose meat, which
just may be on the menu tonight. In fact it just was, nothing special, just OK.
The Iceberg beer was excellent tho. Road
around the cove only to find my camera battery dead. Tomorrow it’s off to
Twillingate.
